Moving to a mid zoom
I'm a little bit of a perfectionist, if I do something wrong it sits in the back of my mind until I correct it. I normally go for cheaper lenses because in my mind it's only glass, why pay more?
I shoot with a Nikon D700 which is great because it's very easy to change any auto focus, exposure, metering setting on the fly. I can't fault the body because I get some fantastic results from using a 80-200mm 2.8 with it, however I've found I don't get sharp results from my Sigma 28mm 1.8, I think this is because I'm used to shooting on a D90 which doesn't have the kind of ISO power of the D700, old habits are hard to break as I'm so careful not to pump up to 4000-6000 ISO when really I should.
Here are some shots I took on the weekend with the Sigma 28mm f1.8.
I found it difficult to get a nice sharp image even in the center.
Old habits die hard, this one I shot too wide and too slow, I learnt that it's probably not the best lens for what I want. So I'm selling/sold my Sigma 10-20mm and my 28mm, I'm saving for some quality glass.
The Nikon 24-70mm looks to be just what I'm after although without any vibration control (VR) and it's distortion at the wide end is it's only major faults I can imagine bothering me. Alternative is the Tamron which is a little bit cheeper and might fit the bill. Will update later.
